In 1960, Welch moved to Dallas, Texas, where she worked as a cocktail waitress and a model. She won several beauty contests, including Miss San Diego and Miss Fairest of the Fair, and eventually caught the eye of Hollywood talent scouts. In 1964, she made her film debut in the movie “A Swingin’ Summer,” and the following year, she appeared in the hit movie “Fantastic Voyage,” which brought her international attention.
In 1966, Welch starred in the movie “One Million Years B.C.,” in which she played a prehistoric cave-woman.
