Alex Sarfo Kantanka, the Municipal Chief Executive Nominee for the Juaben Municipal Assembly, was captured in a secretly filmed video demanding a refund of a bribe he paid to some Assembly members after they rejected him during a nearly chaotic confirmation process.
In a video obtained by Citi News, the rejected nominee can be seen hurling insults and curses at people who appear to be Assembly members. He was seen angrily exchanging words with some assembly members and demanding the return of funds paid to them in some instances.
He was also caught on camera asking everyone to “be ready to return his money as soon as possible.”
Alex Sarfo Kantanka, the nominee, fell short of a two-thirds majority after receiving only six of the 26 votes cast in the first round.
The President reappointed the nominee, but some Assembly members boycotted the first confirmation vote on Friday, citing intimidation over the deployment of armed security officers.
He went on to say that after speaking with residents, some of them accused the Member of Parliament of the area of plotting against the confirmation of the President’s MCE nominee.
