President Akufo-Addo in his tribute to the late former President Jerry John Rawlings said their relationship in the past was full of animosity, dislike and rancour which was known to all.
According to him, his relationship with Rawlings was not so great in the past since it was characterized with strong opposition, bitterness and disagreement on several national and personal issues.
President Akufo-Addo in his tribute speech today January 27, 2021, at the Black Stars Square honestly said he and Rawlings had a hard time getting along in the past but things did change along the line and they came to appreciate the value in each other.
“It was no secret that the relationship between the two of us…was one of open animosity. We did not see eye to eye at all. However, with time things changed. We came to see value in each other and our respective perspectives,” President Akufo-Addo said.
President Akufo-Addo during the early years of his political career staged demonstrations against the then-Rawlings government and opposed the way the country was been run.
He is famously known for organizing the “Ku Me Pre Ko” which he led to register the displeasure of the NPP and Ghanaians against the introduction of some government policies like the Value Added Tax (VAT).
The final funeral rite for former President Rawlings was held at the Black Star in Accra today following his demise at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on 12th November 2020.
