Deirdre, her older sister, is the one she refers to as “Dee.” Paul Hession, an Irish athlete, is her cousin. After giving up swimming at the age of 13 (she was an All-Ireland champion swimmer at nine), Healy chose to learn how to play the guitar using her mother’s guitar.

She then started writing her own songs. She chose to take a year off after completing her education at age 18 and work as a medical secretary.

Healy started her musical career by singing and playing guitar in Irish bars and clubs, both alone and with bands. She was the 2004 and 2006 champion of Ireland’s Glinsk Song Contest.

She performed “Every Song Is a Cry for Love” as Brian Kennedy’s backup singer for Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006. Healy believed she lacked a clear direction in her career, despite the fact that she was gradually becoming a successful independent solo artist in her own Ireland.
