President Akufo-Addo has promised to pay in full the locked-up funds of customers of defunct Diamond Microfinance Limited (DKM) by end of September.
The reaction of the president comes on the back of a manifesto promise by the National Democratic Congress to pay all customers of DKM if they win the elections.
In an interaction with the chiefs and people of Wenchi in the Bono Region, President Akufo-Addo said he will ensure that all these customers are paid a one hundred per cent of their funds by end of September.
“By the end of September, everyone who was owed by DKM will be given their money,” he said.
“We are going to make sure that all balances are paid in full. We are not paying in percentages like Mahama’s government,” he assured.
In 2015, the Bank of Ghana revoked the licenses of DKM and other microfinance institutions in the then Brong Ahafo Region for breaching the Bank Act.
In the lead-up to the 2016 elections, then-candidate Akufo-Addo promised to pay these DKM customers when voted into power.
