The words “in sickness and in health” is never found anywhere in the Bible. They do not come from the Bible but are rather seen as a pledge to one another while they tie the knot. This tradition of marriage can be dated back to the 16th century and is based on the Sarum Manual.

The Medieval Church isbsaod to have originated those words. The church we attend doesn’t make these words mean or appear differently. Even though the vow is not biblical, they are however, said before God and the men of the church.

Marriage Between Man and Woman

There isn’t any specific time for us to stay submitted to our wives or husbands. We are to offer our services with a clean and perfect heart before the Lord. The vows we share on the day of our wedding are not mere words but are as significant and valuable as we find the marriage itself.

Husbands are to love their wives and vice versa. Wives are instructed to love and serve their husbands and provide them with what they will need. If he is also unable to carry on with his role, she should come together and serve him as Jesus Christ would have served his church. The Bible says;

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her …… In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church — for we are members of his body” (Ephesians 5:25, 28-30).
