What was Martin Shkreli convicted for?

Martin Shkreli gained the attention of the world after he unapologetically raised drug prices and was jailed but has now been released from federal prison in Pennsylvania and moved to a halfway house.

Martin Shkreli, the “Pharma Bro” was sentenced to 7 years in prison in 2018 after he was convicted of securities fraud for lying to investors and manipulating shares of Retrophin Inc. a biotech company he founded.

He was however released early from a low-security federal prison in Allenwood, Pennsylvania.

According to his lawyer, Ben Brafman, while Martin Shkreli was in the halfway house he encouraged him to make no further statement at the time as well as himself.

On Wednesday, May 19th, a photo of Martin Shkreli surfaced on the Twitter account of Edmund Sullivan where he was wearing a “Free Shkreli” t-shirt.

Martin Shkreli wanted early release two years ago as he told a federal judge he has been conducting significant research into developing molecules to inhibit the deadly coronavirus and would continue if he’s set free but his bid was rejected by the judge
