N’Golo Kanté biography
Kanté, who was born to Malian parents and had never represented France in any of their age group teams, was contacted by Mali prior to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. Kanté declined, citing his ongoing efforts to establish himself in Ligue 1.
Kanté received a second invitation from Mali in January 2016[79], despite his declaration that he was still unsure of which national team to support should he receive a request from France.
Kanté was initially chosen for the France senior team on March 17, 2016, when they played a friendly against the Netherlands and Russia.
Eight days later, in a 3-2 victory at the Amsterdam Arena, he made his debut against the former, coming on to replace Lassana Diarra at halftime.
He made his first start on his 25th birthday, March 29, and scored to start a 4-2 victory over Russia at the Stade de France; Dimitri Payet, who was also celebrating his birthday, also scored.
